Water Recovery from Wastewater and Room Ventilation Through Solar Chimney – A Passive Approach

Project Highlights

Suryaneer W2, a students’ team from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli did the project in the sector water and waste management.

In Spite of govt. norms abundant industrial/municipal wastewater are mostly left without recycling due to high cost of water treatment methods. So a self-sustained /passive water recovery plant coupled with room ventilation technology could be a better option.

Who is Behind this Project?

The team is led by Mr. Sivaram PM and the team members are

  • Sivaram PM
  • Dinesh Kumar S

What is the Project all about?

  • Develop a coupled technology of passive solar wastewater treatment plant and room ventilation by inclusion of solar chimney.
  • Reduce the pollution load of effluent from industries and municipal wastewater.
  • Improve the efficiency/productivity of solar still by integrating with solar chimney.
  • Improve the evaporation and condensation rate of solar still and also to reduce the retention time of waste water inside the still.
  • Enhance the thermal comfort of working space by natural ventilation with the aid of solar chimney

What is the Uniqueness of the Solution?

  • Integrated Solar Technology – Renewable passive technology
  • Quality distillate as product
  • Healthy living environment through room ventilation

What is the Potential Market?

  • Educational Institutions
  • Automobile Industries
  • Pharmaceutical Industries
  • Bottling Industries
  • Research Laboratories
